Excelling in the Arts!

Students Have Choices for a Fine Arts Pathway

Visual Art

Led by chorus teacher Debbie Byrd, the HCHS choral program gives students the opportunity to participate in chorus classes, literary choral competition and Glee Club (show choir).

Darrin Overton utilizes more than 27 years of fine arts experience to enhance student’s exploration in Fine Arts and Pottery classes. Students will have the opportunity to complete projects in drawing, printmaking, painting and sculpture.  Pottery students will begin with handbuilding basics while learning clay properties involving the drying, firing and glazing projects.  After completing Pottery 1, students are encouraged to begin using the pottery wheels and learning proper use of throwing tools.

Drama teacher Mark Stich has created a vital drama program at HCHS. In addition to drama classes, students participate in one-act competition and a full-scale Spring production.

Band director Troy Thompson leads the award-winning HCHS Marching Rebel Band, as well as the concert and symphonic bands. Band classes provide students with an opportunity to learn using hands-on processes.  They challenge students to improve individually and as a member of a group. Students have the opportunity to travel, learn using diverse methodology, use different parts of their brains for learning, and develop skills not used in traditional classrooms.
