Buchanan Elementary School's current facility was built in 1954-1955 as a high school. A consolidated high school was later built, thus changing the building's status to that

of a junior high school. Later still the building was used as a middle school. The construction of a consolidated middle school caused yet another change, and Buchanan Elementary School was created in the summer of 1996. As a result of the restructuring of schools, Waco Elementary School was closed, and approximately 60% of their students came to join the first class at Buchanan Elementary.

   Buchanan Elementary follows Federal law which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin (Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964); gender (Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 and the Perkins Act of 1998; or disability (Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) in educational programs or activities receiving federal financial assistance. Students, parents, employees, and the general public are hereby notified that the Haralson County Board of Education does not discriminate in any educational programs or activities or in employment policies. The lack of English language skills shall not be a barrier to admission or participation in the district's activities and programs.
