What Does Your WHES Counselor Do?

-Works with individual students

-Works with small groups

-Instructs in classroom guidance

-Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, social workers, and others on a wide variety of topics relevant to students' well being

-Coordinates school-wide events and activities to promote a positive school climate

-Tracks school-wide attendance and participates in Truancy Treatment Team

-Encourages students to recognize and utilize their own capabilities

-Helps children cope with emotional crisis

Referrals

Parents, teachers, and adminstrators can refer students to the counselor. If a parent would like to refer their child to talk to the counselor, he or she should call the school or send a note to their child's teacher, counselor, or principal. If a student would like to talk to the counselor, they can tell their teacher.

Confidentiality

Communication between counselor and student is confidential unless disclosure is necessary to prevent danger to the student or others or when legal requirements request information.
